About the event

Join us as we embark on our FIRST Community-Wide Restorative Practices Implementation Project: Restore New York!  While implementing Restorative Practices is not a new concept in and of itself, the idea of implementing community-wide is an innovative approach.  We believe that the impact of cultivating belonging and strengthening relationships/community before harm has been caused, as well as sustaining community and repairing harm after it has been caused can improve outcomes exponentially if it happens across domains vs. only existing in the silo of the school.

Are you interested in learning more?  If so, join our Zoom Call on August 26th from 1:00 - 2:00 ET.  This call will allow you to have a better understanding of the scope of Restorative Practices work, how it may apply to your community, and what training and support will look like. There will be time to ask your questions, too.

Where: Training will be provided in New York, near selected communities, plus virtual coaching and collaborating opportunities along the way!

When: The application is due November 22, 2024. Sites will be assessed for readiness and selected by January 8, 2025.

Why: To create communities with shared values and a true sense of belonging. This project is all about creating safe supportive spaces for everyone, where needs can be more easily met through intentional community building and application of restorative practices.

What you get if you choose to join the Project:

  • Leaders trained from multiple community agencies (e.g. school, hospital, police department, etc.), leaving with an understanding of the critical features of Restorative Practices, how to successfully implement the practices, and how to monitor implementation and outcomes over time.
  • The development of internal Leadership teams who will learn to oversee Restorative Practices implementation and support alignment and partnership across agencies.
  • Ideally, the development of local trainers (through a Training of Trainers process) who will be able to help with sustainability of the Foundational RP practices over time by continuing to train even after the AHCC team moves into training the Advanced RP work.
  • AHCC support to collect and progress monitor data (both fidelity and outcomes).
  • Regularly scheduled Zoom meetings with AHCC team members to support implementation.

Common outcomes from implementation of Restorative Practices in schools can include:

  • Increased attendance at school (both adults and students)
  • Increased attendance at workplaces
  • Increased educational assessment scores
  • Increased engagement in community organizations and activities
  • Decreased office discipline referrals and suspensions
  • Decreased youth mental health problems
  • Decreased rates of recidivism and referrals to juvenile justice agencies
